Uniquely Australian.

Truly Tasmanian.

Daniel Kotynia was born in the bottom end of Australia—otherwise known as Tasmania.

A childhood shaped by football, fishing, and the great outdoors eventually gave way to a choice: work or university. He chose university and, for reasons still unclear, enrolled in a business degree. After several fun but academically fruitless years, he decided to chase a career with more direction and joined the army.

Daniel served in East Timor and Iraq, and after his final deployment, he returned to Tasmania, restless and ready for something different. That “something” turned out to be paramedicine—a career he somehow stumbled into and stuck with.

Fifteen years later, after witnessing the trauma of war and the relentless front-line work of emergency medicine, Daniel was diagnosed with PTSD. One day, without much planning, he enrolled at university again—this time in Fine Art.

That was the beginning of his art journey.

“I have chosen to make art that is fun which celebrates this place that we live in. My art is bright, bold and colourful.”

“Art doesn’t need to be serious 100% of the time. Isn’t it time we allowed ourselves to laugh.”
